More from the garden
The daily rain in Rhodey has been good to our first-ever vegetable garden.
We planted zucchini, yellow squash, eggplant, basil, some carrots, and tomatoes. Some tomatoes are in pots and some are in the garden. And we have both green basil and purple (see below). We didn't plant too many carrots, and not all of them came up, but they're an experiment.
We already realized that we crowded way too many things into too little space: next year it will be twice as large with not too many more plants.
The eggplant are the slowest things: they have only started showing pale purple flowers in the past week. We have already eaten plenty of squash and zucchini, steamed or raw, while much of the zucchini is shredded and frozen for cocholate-chip zucchini bread this winter.
A view among the zucchini & squash that looks like a jungle:

A gorgeous squash flower, bedecked with rain:

Our purple basil (which looks striking and tastes just like the ordinary, boring green stuff):

You had *rain* ?!? I mean, I've heard of it, of course, but there was water falling from the sky onto your garden? What was it like?
