The first tooth falls
The Tooth Fairy visited our house for the first time, night before last:

Luckily, her grandpa had just come back from vacation, and stopped by to say hello. He used some crazy sleight-of-hand trick to get out the tooth, flicking it up and out of her mouth as soon as his finger touched it. (It was like a kung-fu movie where the wizened old master barely touches the young student and flips him ass-over-teakettle.) I *have* to learn that before the next loose one is ready to come out.
(In anticipation of the big event, we've been getting lobbied for weeks with reports of the market rate for lost teeth. Mmm-hmmm...)

Looks like a major league ballpark, huh?
I finally got to mow my new lawn, and what a relief! I haven't found pushing a mower so satisfying since the first time I mowed a lawn I owned. We left it long because there's still some grass coming up underneath the main "canopy" of early arrivals:

Of course, the endless rain that followed -- and is forecast for the next week or so -- means I won't get to mow this again for a while. I sure hope it doesn't get too long: after a drought summer, now I complain about too much rain. Will I ever be satisifed?
