Scouting food drive
Nov. 1 the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts went out to pick up donated food, left on doorsteps in the bags that were distributed the previous week.
Here's Cub Master Jeff reminding the Cubs to stay out of people's yards and out of the street before we dispersed to our cars:

Our pack covered seven neighborhoods. In our little group, two families each supplied a parent and a boy and we swept through the sprawling Berkeley Commons development in about an hour. (Note the empty lots ahead; I never thought they would build so many units here, but these are the last few uncompleted.)

We also filled up the back of a minivan. Not bad for the ninety-some houses where bags were dropped, I suppose, considering that I heard about a third or a quarter of houses participate .
Bringing two more heavy bags to the car.

At two or three houses, people popped their heads out when they saw us and yelled to make sure we didn't leave without a bag from them. Good people, and their help will be especially valuable this year.
We took our donations back to the fire station nearest the pack's sponsoring church, where we saw a mob of people and cars unloading. One whole truck bay of the fire house was full of food, and more arrived every minute. I don't know how much we brought in, but it looked like a lot.
